Delaware was first settled in the mid
1840s, it was one of the first mining sites
on the Keaweenaw Peninsula. In 1849 it
had a population over 1,100, but with the
falling copper prices and water problems
in the mine, it was no longer economic and
by the 1890s the population doped to 25.
The Delaware Mine is a horizontal type
mine.
It had ten levels to it, but nine are flooded.
It's a tour mine, but after more than a few
trips looking for mines one gets desperate
and ends up paying, the only good thing
about the mine is that the tour is self
guided, but they do keep track of how long
you've been under so they know if you
jumped off the trail.
thats right, I jumped the trail
